The Complex Spine & Scoliosis Center (CSSC) at HSS delivers expert care for patients of all ages with complex spine conditions. Under the direction of Han Jo Kim, MD, the mission of the center is to utilize decades of research done at HSS to make complex spine surgery “simpler" by leveraging a team of multidisciplinary experts in anesthesia, interventional radiology, medicine, neurology, nursing, pain management, physiatry, radiology and rehabilitation to improve patient outcomes, decrease complications and optimize recovery.
The Complex Spine & Scoliosis Center’s research efforts are dedicated to minimizing postoperative complications and decreasing hospital length of stay. Ultimately, the multidisciplinary team will refer to a clinical registry to detect and study genetic indicators of risk for a variety of postoperative complications. They will use clinical metrics in conjunction with artificial intelligence and machine learning based on a patient’s individualized genetic make-up. Through these efforts, the team will drive surgical innovation, patient specific care and innovations in non-operative management.
