About Dr. Soffin
Dr. Ellen M. Soffin is Vice Chief of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care & Pain Management at HSS, and Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is a board certified, fellowship-trained anesthesiologist. Dr. Soffin completed her residency in Anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia & Acute Pain Medicine at HSS.
As Vice Chief of Clinical Affairs, Dr. Soffin oversees the clinical development programs and operational functions for the Department. Her clinical interests are focused on improving the care and outcomes for patients undergoing complex spine surgery. Dr. Soffin is a recognized expert on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways for orthopedic surgery and the use of regional anesthesia and analgesia within care pathways. Her research interests include the evaluation of novel field and fascial plane blocks for complex spine surgery, enhanced recovery pathways for orthopedic surgery, and regulatory, institutional, and clinical strategies for creating and evaluating opioid stewardship programs.
Dr. Soffin has published extensively on pathway-based care, ultrasound-guided regional analgesic techniques, and opioid-minimizing approaches to the anesthetic care of the orthopedic surgery patient. She serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Pain Research, and Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. She is an active speaker and presenter at major national and international anesthetic and orthopedic surgery society meetings.
