Dr. Matthew Roberts is a nationally recognized leader in foot and ankle surgery, known for his dedication to delivering exceptional surgical care when conservative treatments are no longer effective. His clinical expertise includes bunion correction, Achilles tendon repair for both injury and chronic degeneration, ankle fracture management, sports injury related ankle instability, and complex reconstruction of foot deformities. Dr. Roberts prioritizes minimally invasive techniques whenever appropriate, helping patients achieve optimal outcomes with faster recovery times.

Raised in Oklahoma, Arizona, and New York City, Dr. Roberts attended Stuyvesant High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Rice University. He graduated at the top of his class from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1997. He then returned to New York for a General Surgery Internship at Weill Cornell Medical Center and completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Dr. Roberts further advanced his training with a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle at Harborview Medical Center / University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. In 2011, Dr. Roberts was selected to participate in the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons Leadership Fellows program.

A committed educator and leader, Dr. Roberts served as Chief of the Foot and Ankle Department at HSS for 12 years, expanding it into the largest program of its kind in the nation. He is a recipient of the Nancy Kane Bischoff Award for Resident Mentorship and plays an active role in the hospital’s teaching curriculum, mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students throughout the academic year. As a member of the HSS Board of Trustees, he continues to shape the future of orthopedic care and education.

Dr. Roberts is board certified and an active member of both the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS).
