Patient Case History: Romano
Ankle distraction for treatment of post-traumatic arthritis
Pre-Op
Surgeon: S. Robert Rozbruch, MD
Romano developed painful ankle arthritis years after trauma. X-rays show loss of all cartilage but he had ankle motion that was worth preserving.

Post-Op
Romano underwent ankle distraction in 2006. The fixator created space in the ankle for cartilage regeneration and continued motion.

Follow-Up
Romano has significant improvement in his pain and joint space 6 years later. He has not required more surgery and is very satisfied with the outcome. He has maintained his ankle motion and has avoided ankle fusion or replacement.
